ST. MATTHEW
Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday. Our Communion practice, although different from most other Protestants is consistent with the historic practice of the Christian Church, which has regarded unity in doctrine as a prerequisite for admission to the Sacrament ("oneness at Communion demonstrates oneness in doctrine"). For this reason the churches of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod practice close(d) communion. Close(d) communion is the practice of limiting participation in the Lord's Supper to those who have been catechized (instructed) and examined in the truths of the Christian faith and who have promised to believe, teach and confess what the church in which they will commune believes, teaches and confesses. Guests who are Active Communicant Members of a Missouri Synod Lutheran Congregation are invited to Commune. We ask other guests to respect our position of love in this matter of pastoral care and to speak with the Pastor before receiving communion. For more information, please speak with the Pastor and/or refer to the following article.
The Lord's Supper is celebrated at this congregation in the confession and glad confidence that, as God says, He gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but the actual Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another.
Our Lord invites to His altar baptized communicants who trust His words, repent of all sins, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, that they may show forth His death until He comes.
Because those who eat and drink our Lord's Body and Blood unworthily do so to their great harm and because Holy Communion is a sign of unity in the confession of faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, are in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation and The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (e.g., a member of another denomination) and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked to first speak with the pastor.
