Serving in Christ

Pastor Mendez

Rev. Arturo Mendez
Associate & Vacancy Pastor – St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Westfield

He has been joyfully called to proclaim Christ crucified, administer the Sacraments faithfully, and shepherd God’s people with a heart grounded in the pure Gospel.

Pastor Mendez is committed to the historic, confessional Lutheran faith as taught in the Holy Scriptures and confessed in the Book of Concord. He believes that doctrine is not merely for the classroom, but for life—because God’s truth shapes how we worship, how we live, and how we serve. His ministry flows from the conviction that the Church must remain faithful to the Word of God while also being present and active in love toward the neighbor.

He began his theological studies at Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri in 2011 and graduated in 2014. He joined the ministry at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Westfield in June 2015 and was officially called and ordained into the Office of the Holy Ministry on December 2, 2018.

In addition to his theological formation, Pastor Mendez holds a GED with a focus in Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. This diverse educational background enriches his pastoral care and communication, helping him connect meaningfully with people from all walks of life.

His pastoral heart is shaped by prayer, liturgical worship, and a deep desire to walk with people through every season of life. Whether preaching from the pulpit, visiting the sick, or teaching the faith, Pastor Mendez sees every moment of ministry as a Christ-centered calling.

He is deeply thankful to be part of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Westfield family and is eager to continue building a church rooted in truth and overflowing with grace.

“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.”          – 2 Timothy 4:2 (ESV)  “We confess Christ boldly, love the neighbor sincerely, and rest in the mercy of God that holds us all.”

Eyes Always on the Lord

Serve with Purpose

Grounded in God’s Word

Faithful to the Word. Rooted in Christ. Sent in Love. At St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Westfield, we are a community gathered by grace. We don’t seek to be something new or flashy—we seek to be faithful. Faithful to Christ, to His Word, and to the Church He Himself has established through His death and resurrection.

We are a confessional Lutheran congregation. This means we gladly hold to the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions because they lead us to Jesus. These truths are not outdated or abstract; they are living, life-giving, and meant to shape our lives with clarity, purpose, and peace.

Our worship is reverent and rooted in Scripture, shaped by the liturgy that has formed the Church across generations. Each Sunday, we gather not to perform or impress, but to receive. In the Word and Sacraments, Christ comes to us—speaking forgiveness, giving rest, and strengthening His people for daily life in a world that is often restless and weary.

We serve because Christ first served us. We love because He first loved us. Whether it’s a word of encouragement, a visit to someone hurting, or simply walking with others through life’s joys and sorrows—we believe God works through ordinary moments with extraordinary grace.

If you are looking for a place to grow in God’s Word, to be nourished by Christ’s gifts, and to walk together with fellow believers in love and hope—you are welcome here. Not because we have it all figured out, but because Christ is here, and He is enough.

“Stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”

— 1 Corinthians 16:13–14
